HOW DRONE SURVEYING WORKS
Drone surveys are conducted using several types of technology:
LiDAR
Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) uses lasers to capture millions of precise data points, which are stored in a 3D point cloud. This data can be used to create data-rich terrain maps and various 3D models.
Multispectral Sensors
Multispectral sensors capture data across various light spectra, including those invisible to the human eye. Multispectral data can analyse features including land cover and use, vegetation health, soil conditions, and environmental impacts.
Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry utilises 4K cameras to capture high-resolution video and 2D photographic images. Specialised software stitches the photographs together to produce a single, orthorectified image of the survey area, called an orthomosaic map.
Thermal Sensors
Thermal sensors detect heat signatures and temperature variations. Thermal data can identify subsurface, infrastructure, or building issues, locate buried features, and aid environmental monitoring.
