ASPHALT AND CONCRETE SCANNING

Detect subsurface structures and issues in asphalt and concrete for infrastructure projects, construction, and other industries.

MISSION-CRITICAL INTELLIGENCE

If your project requires personnel to repair or replace asphalt or concrete, it’s critical to have a comprehensive understanding of what lies beneath. Drone-mounted, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) enables project teams to envision features beneath the surface of asphalt and concrete, including:

Utility lines

Post-tensioned cables

Steel-reinforcing bar (rebar)

Electrical conduits

Voids and gaps

Moisture-intrusion zones and drainage issues

Other subsurface defects

HOW GPR WORKS

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to detect features within asphalt and concrete before cutting or drilling. Drones are fitted with lightweight radar antennas and are typically flown close to the ground or building surface to scan the asphalt or concrete with radar waves. Along with detecting subsurface features, the GPR data can be used to accurately measure concrete slabs and the spacing of support features beneath to assess structural integrity.

ESSENTIAL ACROSS INDUSTRIES

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning can play an essential role beyond scanning existing asphalt and concrete infrastructure. Other uses include:

Pre-construction site assessments for pipelines, roads, and railways

Mine safety assessments

Archeological surveys

Disaster assessments

Environmental remediation of legacy industrial sites

Optimising ACCESSIBILITY AND SAFETY

Drone scanning technology can easily access large-scale, remote, rugged, or dangerous environments, unlocking new capabilities and accelerating operations compared to traditional, ground-based scanning. This greatly reduces the risk to project personnel while providing operations teams with leading-edge data insights.
